Suffern is a village in the town of Ramapo, Rockland County, New York with a population of 10,723. The area originally belonged to Lenni Lenape. The area was named after John Suffern, who was the first Rockland County judge from 1798-1806. He settled near the base fo the Ramapo Mountains in 1773 and named the area New Antrim after his home in County Antrim, Ireland. This area proved important during the Revolutionary War due to its location near Ramapo pass.

Suffern Police Department – The Suffern Police Department was formed in 1896 and serves approximately 14,000 residents who reside in the village of Suffern. The police force is dedicated to providing protection and ethical treatment to the complete Suffern community.
