Custom Window Treatments

Today’s homes are often graced with wonderful tall ceilings and beautiful windows. If you are so fortunate as to own a home with these features, the “challenge” can be how to create a comfortable, inviting space that feels finished with the use of window treatments, while NOT darkening the room or making the windows look smaller!

Your window treatments should frame your view, not cover it! The idea is to hang your window treatments as high as possible so they are closer to the ceiling than to the window frame, and to have the fabric go out on the walls, NOT come into the glass. This method of design makes windows appear larger, draws the eye up and lets in as much light as possible. Window treatments that are properly designed and installed can make smaller windows look bigger and make a room with large windows absolutely magnificent.

Some other challenges are arched windows, angled ceiling lines, and palladian transoms. All too often these ignored and just left undressed! But rather than being a hinderance, architectural features such as these should be regarded as a wonderful opportunity – window treatments should not just address the window, but should beautifully enhance the room’s architecture.

A room can become transformed into the most elegant and beautiful space possible, even with the simplest of treatments (such as stationary side panels) when they are hung properly and in proportion.
